Ira Power started for his first visit to the State of New York
1st of 10th mo., 1850, was gone about 3 weeks. Was unwell when he
started and remained so most of the time while there.
24th of 10th mo., 1853
Ira started on his 2nd visit to York State and was gone until
the 31st of 12 mo. He came home with Patience and I from Quarterly
meeting. Was gone 10 weeks. Made a long visit. Came home by
railroad through Ohio. His visit was much with his grandmother
Payne who died in 3rd mo. following 1854 and also Reuben Payne her
son a few days before she died.
25th of 5th mo., 1854
Zeno Comstock & his wife Sally made us a visit. They staid 5
days. Patience & I went with them to Detroit. The 31st of 5th
mo started early in the morning. They took boat the next day 1st of
6th mo for Toledo to visit in the South part of the state & up
to Chicago. The 26th the next day after they got here was the great
eclips. Zeno took much interest in

viewing the eclips. We had a first rate visit with them. Had a
rost pig the next day after they got here & a dinner of
chickens the day before they left for Detroit. He helped me plant
corn on the 26th & 27.
26th of 10th mo., 1854
Calvin Payne made us a visit. Staid 10 days here & to
Gideons. Was with us during a part of Otis severe sickness. Left
the next day after the election, the time I was elected to the
legislator to represent the 5th district. Calvin seemed rather
gloomy and nothing in particular abed us an object to stimulate
life or action.
