Father Payne and Wife and their son William made us a visit in
1829. Got here 23rd of 6th mo. staid 13 days. I took them to
Detroit with my Ox Team. Selinda went with us. I was taken sick
there the 8th of 7th mo. I succeeded in getting home with her aid
and assistance and was confined to the house for 10 weeks and my
recovery was nearly disposed of but my days have been lengthened
until the present time, 9th of 5th mo., 1846, the time I am making
the above minutes.
But in 3 years after I was separated by death from my worthy
companion, she being removed from me by Death. The loss is
incomparably great and rests on the mind at times with the same
degree of lively sensation that it did in the beginning or at the
time of her death. 2nd of the 8th mo., 1832 7. o'clock A.M. Selinda
died Aged 31 years 2 mo. & 26 days. Same day at 11 o'clock A.M.

9th mo. 24th. 1838
I harnessed a mair that I had of Brother Samul. Old Bet &
the doll mare then 3 years old. I had raised her from a colt But
she always proved to be a balky bruit. The first time I put them
into the harness together I got Wm. Power's buggy & took Father
& Mother Payne out to Nathan Stoddards in the Adrian county.
5th mo, 1851 I got me up a double buggy. This was the first one
that I had ever had. Jacob A. Drake made it. It lasted me 8 years.
It cost me $80.
11th mo. 27th, 1859 Jacob A. Drake made me another buggy. This
cost me about $55 having used most of the old irons from the old
one. On first day the 27th of 11 mo. Patience, Huldah, Betsy Brock
& myself went to our meeting. Stephen Lapham had just finished
our Meeting house shed. I had found the shingles & lumber
though it was raised in 1857 and stood mostly enclosed & one
third shingled up to the above time or date.
