An account of Birthdays since I was 30 years old
On the 19th of 11th mo. 1831 - 30 years of my life had passed
away & gone. This is far more than half of the lifetime of many
people and certain it is that if I should live 30 years more it
would pass soon away.
The day I was 30 years I made with the help of Wm. Tibbits 9
knot malls and put them in the crib and did some work in the
garden.
4th. mo., 19th, 1832
Another year has gone which was my 31st. On that Birthday I
ploughed in the place where I set my orchard a few days after. I
ploughed with one yoke of oxen.

On the 19th of 4th mo., 1833
I stuck up beams in the mill yard with Thaddeus Martin 6th day
of the week. This day I am 32 years old. Another year forever gone.
Proclaims the end of time. And has gone with it a beloved Wife
and only Daughter and my little son George who was the last gift of
his Mother so that they with Lorenzo make just half of my family
that I have this year followed to the silent grave.
This is a year long to be remembered by me; a year never to be
forgotten while in mutability it has been a dispensation of Deep
trial that none knows save those that are called to pass through. A
path exempt from trial is what I have no right to expect and what I
hope I am learning not to desire. A patient submition to every
divine dispensation is what I wish for an increase of so that the
mingled cup of life may prove a profitable draught and impress me.
