hill just south of the grist mill. The 11 acres on the N. East corner of my clearing was mostly cut into fire wood and was not cleared off until the fall of 1839.

Thus far I have given a short account of the chopping and clearing of my farm.

8th mo., 23rd., 1859

I went with James Mills, Samuel Patridge, & myself in the P.M. of that day (as we had thrashed 108 bushels of rye in the forenoon of the day George Hilliker's machine) and drawed off stone from the piece I own. South of the plank we drawed off 9 larger ones. This I put down as the first work done by me in taking possession of what is to be, I suppose, my future home through life, east end of the farm.

11th mo., 11 & 12th, 1860. I moved my household goods, farming implements into the house built by Isaac Wixom. Hired it of Abram Lapham for one year with a horse barn attached for $50.00. Gideon helped me move over the rain troth & potash kettle on the 10th inst. Ira helped me with his team on the 11th inst & Gideon on the 12. He used the horses that he had traded with Arthur Power in 3rd mo. We staid in the house on the night of the 12th. Edwin Brown found us the first night. Allen Johnson & son Seth the next night & in addition a colored man to breakfast in the morning. The days of our moving was 4 & 5 day of the week. 6th day we drove over 6 more cows drawed some wood & 7 day Robert Eas & Edwin drawed out manure from John Frosts in the village and Otis & I made a pair of bars east of the barn & mended a gate south of the same. The next day 1st., day Drusila & husband Savile Aldrich, Stephen Lapham, Henry Bows, Patience & myself were at meeting. It seemed pleasant that meeting was so nigh.
