that I had given them except the old mair. I gave him $43 for
her that he is to buy a cow with. I drove the horses as far as Wm.
Beaches. Philip then got a board and I returned laid down 4 o'clock
got up at 5 o'clock took up the business of life again. Helped Otis
heel in 250 greening trees. Set out 2 trees in the cemetery and 12
in in the East garden. This was on the 20. Otis was gone on the
19th after them to the Wayne Nursery.
4th mo., 19th, 1867
My 66th closes. I got of William a dozen rasberrie bushes and
set them out on the North side of the East garden. In the P.M.
attended the funeral of John Harden's mother, 91 years old. William
C. Way preached the funeral discourse from Ecclesiastics 12 - 7th
vers. He made a good discourse though this woman lived long yet
death come ___ to all. Fastining(?) & I for the preparation.

4th mo., 19th 1868. First day of the week. This completes my
67th year. I attended my first day school ___ of 5 at ___. As I
have commensed teaching about hour fears our(?) ___ continue long
the peace. I took out 4 pales of sirup at dark. This is a cold
April and snows as late as the 29th. I feel solemn at the approach
of such a dreary life. The grat thing is I am making preparation
for my departure which may come at any time. I have from a sense of
duty for some years taken up vocal prayers in my family
occasionally.
4th mo., 19th. 1869. Second day of the week makes 68th complete
years of my lengthened life. My health is unusually good for which I
feel very thankful. I went to Francis Courters and bought 1500 lbs.
of hay at $12 per ton. George Allen, John Nelson and myself brought
in my sap tools and put them in the sap house. We had a good season
for sugaring. It was cold up to the 15th of April. George and John
planted multiplying onions towards night and I did the chores.
