Dates of our journey from the state of New York to Michigan.

We started from Father Payne's the 5th day of the week 1st of 6th mo., 1826 (Gideon was six and a half months old). Arrived at Buffalo 1st day morning 4th of 6th mo. Staid in Buffalo two days waiting for the boat. Left there on the Henry Clay for Detroit. (The Clay and the Old Superior were all the boats that then plied on the lake.) Arrived there on the 6th inst. 4 o'clock P.M. being one night and about two days on the lake. In two days after we arrived at Father's house on the North bank of the mill stream 10th of 6th mo., 5 o'clock P.M. Father lived at that time a little east of North of where the grist mill now stands in 1846.

On the 30th of 6th mo., 20 days after we had arrived I got our stove and furniture from Detroit so that we began to keep house in the first one built in the town. Our journey from Father Payne's to Michigan was just 10 days.

In the 2nd mo., 1824 Father, Brother John, David Smith and Daniel Rush started for this county and arrived here the 3rd day of 3rd mo., 1824 and made the first improvement that was made in the town on the southeast corner of the N.E. quarter of Sect. 22 in Range 9 east. In 1825 Father bought two lots of land of Richard Snell where he went to live in 1827. He had built a sawmill in 1825 before he moved over where he built his house a little west of the village.

He had bought in this county for himself and children 12 lots of land all within the town of Farmington.

William Wright and William Tibbits started from Farmington with 12 hed of cattle on the 17th of 6 mo., 1826. Drove them through the Ohio and reached here on the morning of the 17th of 7th mo., being on the road just 30 days. The whole expense was $27.38.
