to see Orval Botsford about buying his carriage. I then held the
plough until noon & again in the P.M. until 4 o'clock while
Otis went & found a "Friends Review" that he dropped from his
pocket in going to Botsfords. I finished the day in spreding straw
in the same lot. Serious is the thought I am now entering on the
last year that makes up 3 score years to me And O! that I may
improve as my life wanes away. This is the year that Robert C.
Macauly the eminant historian died being of my age 59 years old.
4th mo., 19th, 1861
Completes my 60th year. During the last winter my daughter
Huldah was married to Philip Brown 27th of 11th. I worked with
Philip in making a cow yard on the S. West corner of the farm,
spred out the bottom of a stalk stack & drew some of the rails
for the cow yard in the A.M.

In the afternoon we laid out & put up 22 lengths of fense
directly east of our cemetary.
I have now closed my three score years. Omer the Student said
"three score years & ten are allotted unto man" & I have 10
yet remaining. But I may seriously question whether 10 is yet
allotted unto me. The close of life & whether I shall be found
ready for this great change is my daily thought & meditation.
4th mo., 19th Ends my 61st year. I made a lounge frame in the
morning for Henrietta Greaves with the help of Josh Greaves who
began work for me this year. I then went with the Buggy & took
her home & from there went to Huldahs & Patience came home
with me as she had been there 8 days. Susan Brown came home with me
to work this season. I find myself since the 28th of 3rd mo. in the
old Bows house. So time runs on and I am growing older fast though
my health is now good.
