Patience started with Huldah for her 5th visit to New York state. 29th of 5th mo. I went to Detroit with Otis and found Patience and Huldah returned on the steamer Mayflower having been gone 24 days. She brought $100 that her Father gave her. I paid the next week to Darius C. Willits toward the debt on the Willit land.

9th of the 8th mo., 1852 I started to attend the Free Soil convention at Pitsburgh. Was gone 6 days. A great & good meeting This was the first time I made on a steamboat since coming into this county 26 years ago except across the Detroit from Cleveland to Pitsburgh 150. This was the first time I ever rode on the cars in my life.
