When I arrived here I had about 18 acres of land cleared and 9
acres chopped. I sowed in the fall of 1826 on my land and John's 13
acres of wheat and had about 140 bushels. I hired Solomon Walker in
11th. mo., in 1827 to build me a corncrib.
The next year 1827 I sowed 5 acres on the east line of my
clearing where wheat had been sown by Father in the fall of 1825.
Had no crop on the account of chess.
I then mowed in the fall of 1828 on a piece of 7 acres that N.
Toleman choped in the winter of 1827 and had 106 bushels.
I hired Horace Hopkins in the summer of 1827 to slash down 22
acres directly east of the Pontiac road and on the north side of my
land. It laid 2 years and I hired Reuben Garlick to clear off 10
acres next to the road which I sowed to wheat 15th of 10th mo.,
1827 and had 200 bushels.

The logging I hired Garlick to do on the account of a severe
sickness that I had in the 7th mo. that summer.
In the fall of 1830 I cleared the rest and mowed it on the 25th
of 10th mo. which was rather light being sowed too late.
I hired the Phillip's to chop 12 acres west of the road south
side of my farm in the winter of 1828 & 29. Nathan Toleman and
H. Hopkins choped out enough more to make up 15 acres. This I
logged in the spring of 1830 and planted it to corn and had a
midling crop.
I taught school in the winter of 1828 & 9. I hired Luther
Wait to chop 15 acres where my corn now stands running east far
enough to make it and 2 and a half acres on the north side of the
orchard. This he did in the winter of 1829 & 30. I also taught
school that winter the same place that I did the winter before, on
