11th mo., 24th., 1862

Gideon took Frances to Detroit for the overland rout to California But owing to the war that has invited the Indians to commit depridations on emigrants ___ Gideon came back the same day & got more ___ for Francis. He started for the Ocean rout.

Patience & I made him a farewell visit to Gideons on the P.M. of the 23rd. Mary got a chicken for supper. This to us was a solemn parting which seamed something as though it might be the last interview in this life. Serious is the thought of a final parting. This was the afternoon that Ethan Lapham was buried, viz the 23. We went to Gideons after the funeral which was held at Watton's House at 11. o'clock A.M.

11th mo. 30st., 1862 Hellen M. Shiers(?) came at 12 noon and made us a visit. Staid 4 days & went to Gideons. 6th mo 16th Gideon had my buggy & took her to Wayne. She staid 6 and a half weeks. ___ South went with them.

3rd mo., 28th, 1868. I moved into the Old Bows log house on 6th day of week. John Washburn helped me. His family went into the Murray house 6 days before we left. This seemed rather hard to move into so poor a house in old Age. The morning of the 29th the ground was just covered with snow.

9th mo., 17th, 1862 I began the cellar to move the Meeting house over but was much hindered in getting a Mason to do the work. William Cummins did the carpenter work. On the 15th of 11th mo., moved the house over the cellar. This was a source of great anxiety to me as the sills of the house were quite rotten. But we succeeded in our efforts to place it on the spot. We moved the cheesehouse from the old loghouse on the 21st & the shed on the 22nd of 11th mo.

12th mo, 21st, 62. We moved into the meeting house. This I suppose & hope may be my last earthly move. The house is very comfortable & warm. We invited all our children to an oyster dinner. The next day New Years I had a good visit from them ___ But Francis be in California.
