On the above day died Dr. Archibald Franklin Steinhoff 2 1/2
o'clock P.M. on the 5th day of the week. The funeral took place the
next day at 3 o'clock P.M. The funeral obsequies were directed by
the Free Masons. The sermon was preached by ___ Brown a methodist
preacher of the Order. The people were seated under the shades on
the south part of Deacon Places dwelling house. This was quite the
largest funeral ever held in the town 1000 present. The Dr. had
been 1 1/2 years in the place & had success in a most
remarkable manner in gaining the public confidence in his
profession. His ride was very large & extensive which was
thought to of impaired his health & broke down his
constitution. His sickness was 3 weeks something of the typhoid
disease. He was of the German desent, 30 years of age. Many
testified on the day of the Funeral that he was the instrument in
the divine hand of restoring them to health & some of saving
their life. The sorrow at the Funeral

was manifestly deep while the wail from many was full &
apparent. He died at Elder Grove in the west part of our village.
The text spoken from was Job 19:11. My days are past my purposes
are broken off even the thought of my heart.
